If you’re thinking about camping at Styx River Resort, you can find many great things to do around the area during your time here with us! We are located just a half hour away from Mobile, where you can find lots of attractions for the whole family to enjoy.
For a piece of military history, why not check out Mobile’s Battleship Park? Home to the USS Alabama, which fought in World War II and decommissioned in 1947. Visitors to the park can tour the decks of the battleship, or even go into on the USS Drum, a World War II era submarine. There are also tanks, a flight simulator, and many air crafts at the park. It is easy to spend a whole day at the park, as there are so many interesting things to see and do! The USS Alabama is really a site to be seen, the scale of the ship can not be explained. Go experience it for yourself!
If you find yourself at our park in late winter, you must check out Mardi Gras in Mobile, the place where it all started! More family friendly than New Orlean’s Mardi Gras celebration, so feel free to bring the kids along with you. Full of music and lots of fun, you can’t go wrong with the parade! There are some really breathtaking floats, and beads for everyone of course!
If you are a history buff, the Museum of Mobile is a must-see. Located in a 1857 National Landmark building (and formerly a city hall), the museum is chock full of interesting exhibits about the history of Mobile and the Gulf Coast. The museum is quite big, so plan on spending a lot of time there. In the museum’s permanent collections you can find many antiques and artifacts from Mobile’s history, as well as an exhibit about the first Native Americans to settle in the Mobile area. Definitely worth a trip for you and your family.
We look forward to your visit with us here at Styx River and hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of the area! Feel free to list any of the fun things you’ve done in the area while camping with us!
