Fall RV Camping and Touring

With the weather cooling down, and the colors outside changing, RV camping in the fall is a perfect time to travel.

A large draw to the fall season is the beauty of Mother Nature and the changes in the foliage. Many people start in the north in places such as Michigan and the Great Lakes, or over in New England. With these areas getting cooler faster, the leaves change earlier. Sixteen counties in northern Alabama have planned tours of the colors… don’t forget to take time and rest at our Mountain Lakes Resort. Following the colors to the south through areas such as the Appalachians or the Ozarks will lead you down to the Gulf Coast…right in time for the many fall events that take place.

This time of year is great for attending the many festivals and State Fairs that take place. The Texas State Fair, one of the largest in the country, is currently taking place until October 26. Towns have local fairs, the cider mills start brewing, and pumpkin patches open. Look where you are headed and see what activities may be planned.

While you are enjoying the change in colors, also enjoy the many changes in nature. Head on out for a hike on the nature trails and watch for migrations of the northern birds that are making their way south. Every fall, Gulf Shores, just 30 minutes from Styx River, has a weeklong bird banding session for all of the birds migrating south, as well as a “Bird 101” class on October 20th to learn more of the facts behind bird watching.  (Check out Meyer Events). And don’t forget to take a simple walk outside so you will also get a great sensory experience as you smell the fallen leaves and pine needles.

Halloween is right around the corner. Resorts usually have on-park parties for families, or on-campsite trick-or-treating for kids. Check out the resort you are on and see what activities are taking place for you and your family to enjoy. And remember, many resorts will celebrate Halloween early!

While summer may be the most popular time to camp, remember that your camper still works in the fall. Whether you are looking for the aura of the season, or the fun of the season, fall is always a great time of year to camp.

Which fall festivals, fairs and events will you be attending this year?
