The resort can finally begin to breathe again now that school is back in session. The temperature is just beginning to cool back down and the members are still being lazy at the river. We are ready for the smell of the grill and the warmth of the campfire to start back. For those who visit Mountain Lakes, you may have recognized a familiar face. Welcome, Mickey Murdock as the new resort manager of both our Mountain Lakes Resort and our own Styx River Resort.
The most memorable event this summer was our 50’s-Themed Sock-Hop. The clubhouse was full of people having lots of fun, singing, dancing, and not to mention, lots of food. The Fourth of July was filled with a great barbeque, a watermelon eating contest with 40 adults and 80 kids, followed by our annual seed spitting contest, a hilarious marshmallow whistling contest and one satisfying pie-eating contest.
In September, we find out who-dun-it at our Who-Dun-It Mystery Weekend from the 13th-15th. In October, we have our Fall Festival from the 11th-13th and our Halloween Fun from the 25th-27th. If you are a veteran, you won’t want to miss our Veterans Weekend from the 8th-10th of November. If you think you have a blue-ribbon chili, it’s time to show it off in our Chili Cookoff from the 22nd-24th. On November 28th, we will be having a Thanksgiving potluck and remind ourselves how truly blessed we all are.
This fall, we hope to add a new roof to the restaurant and dining hall. We will also be updating a few of the campsites, as well as, remodeling a few of the cabins and decks. Come on out and check out all things new here at the park!
